MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN |

Hon'ble Chief Guest, Panel experts and Delegates
Welcome to Convergence 2012, the 4th International
Conference on “DOING BUSINESS IN INDIA”!!
India is today considered the ultimate destination for
global business, after China, especially in the
service sector. With increasing globalization and
liberalization, the scope for FDI and foreign
investments has opened up in a massive way, which will
have a tremendous impact on our own economy. This will
result in more investments coming into India, and
higher generation of employment. Needless to add, this
will also mean more investments to be made for
providing better infrastructure & facilities, so that
the environment is conducive for setting up of
Industries in India.
The number of Indian multinationals is also growing
rapidly and since International business works on the
principal of reciprocity, more opportunities will be
available to Indian business houses to set up shop
abroad and to grow rapidly. The houses of Tatas,
Birlas, Reliance, etc are among those Indian
Businesses, which have quickly seized opportunities
abroad successfully and have grown rapidly. This list
has hundreds of smaller names and these companies
operate in several countries all over the world like
Nigeria, South Africa, Russia, South America, West
Industries, S.E. Asia, etc besides the western world.

We have had a number of joint ventures for several
years now, with names like Lever Brothers, Larsen & Toubro,
BAT, Proctor & Gamble, Colgate, British Leyland, etc,
becoming household names. These are predominantly in the
area of Manufacturing and the Services sector has been
relatively left untouched. It is our firm belief that
there is tremendous potential in the Services sector and
with this in mind, we have organized this International
Conference and focused on four key sections of the
services sector. “Convergence – the Annual International
Conference” is hosted by IFIM Business School every year
to bring in a synergistic confluence of reputed and senior
Academicians and Top Business Leaders and Industry
professionals on one universal platform and by conducting
a plethora of events and activities.
Convergence -2012, the fourth Annual International
Conference by IFIM has adopted this year's theme as “Doing
Business in India: Opportunities and Challenges in the
Service Sector” and is designed to discuss and deliberate
on these four sections of the service sector that are fast
expanding and has tremendous potential for growth and is
likely to gain centre-stage in the Indian Economy. The
sections are Education, Retail, Financial Services, Health
Care and Medical Tourism Each track has drawn
distinguished panelists from Industry and Academia who
will not only deliberate on the salient aspects of the
arena they are associated with but will also evaluate the
various speakers and participants.
Academic Partners: University of Applied Sciences,
Lubeck, Germany, and the Virginia Commonwealth University,
VCU, USA have teamed up with IFIM B-School, Bangalore in
the Conference as academic partners for this edition of
Convergence. All these institutions share a common vision
and aspirations with IFIM B-School on benefits of
“Convergence” to the students' fraternity under their
tutelage with same spirit and fervor.
My heartiest congratulations and Best Wishes to all the
participants and delegates of Convergence 2012.
