Further to promote and strengthen the research efforts at IFIM, the management has created a new position viz., Director (Research) since 2004. Currently this position is headed by Dr. M.R. GOPALAN, former Professor of IIM-B for more than 25 years.

With this new research set up, the institute has identified two important activities to be promoted :
 

• IFIM launched a refereed management journal titled: Focus – The International Journal of Management Digest, in the year 2005 and as on today it has more than 150 subscriptions comprising of corporates and educational institutions.
• Funding of Specific research activities to be undertaken by IFIM faculty.

The management has approved a research budget for promoting the following research activities:
 

• Exploratory Research.
• Case Research.
• Working Paper series.
• Presentation of Research papers in International and Local Seminars.
• Incentives for Book Publication etc.

The institute has earmarked a budget of Rs.40 lakhs for the Current academic year for the above 2 activities. On the above lines various research activities have been initiated at IFIM.

The areas of research and consultancy in which the IFIM faculty were involved in the past include the following:

Strategic Management, Finance, Socio-economic sectors, Human Resources Management, etc.

IFIM today is not only a teaching institute but also an institute of higher learning where a strong research infrastructure is being created for bridging the gap between theory and practice.
